Indian Samosa


Samosa is one of the most popular and favorite Indian crispy snacks that stuffed with spicy potatoes and peas, usually served with green chutney or tamarind chutney.

Ingredients for dough:

  • Plain flour: 1 cup (200gram)
  • Oil: 3tablespoon
  • Carom seeds: 1 tablespoon
  • Cumin seeds:1 tablespoon roasted powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as required

Ingredients for stuffing:

  • Potato: 4 boiled
  • Peas: 1 cup boiled/frozen
  • Ginger-garlic paste: 1 tablespoon
  • Green chili: 1 tablespoon
  • Coriander leaves: 1 cup chopped
  • Turmeric powder: ½ teaspoon
  • Red chili powder: 1 tablespoon
  • Dry mango powder: ½ tablespoon
  • Black pepper powder: 1teaspoon
  • Cumin powder: ½ tablespoon
  • Coriander powder: ½ tablespoon
  • Lemon juice:1 tablespoon
  • Ground spice powder: 1tablespoon
  • Oil for deep fry

How to prepare dough:

  1. Take the bowl and add plain flour, carom seeds, roasted cumin powder, 3tablespoon of oil and salt to taste,
  2. Mix this all the ingredients well and add some little water in it, knead the dough and with enough little water,
  3. Make stiff and not too soft dough, the dough is ready now cover the dough and keep aside for 10 minutes.

How to prepare stuff for samosa:               

  1. In a non-stick pan, turn on the flame and heat the 2 tablespoon oil, add chopped green chili and ginger-garlic paste, sauté for a minute while its turn into little brown on a medium flame,
  2. Add green peas and fry for a minute, after that add turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder and ground spice powder,
  3. Mix all well and add mashed potato, black pepper powder, lemon juice and salt to taste and mix this mixture gently, cook it on low flame for 3 minutes,
  4. Turn off the flame and add chopped coriander leaves, dry mango powder and mix it again,
  5. Keep this mixture aside for cool down completely,
  6. So, stuffing is ready.

How to make samosa:

  1. Again knead the prepared dough, make a small size of balls to make samosa sheet,
  2. Take 1 ball of dough and keep cover the remaining dough, dust a ball in a dry plain flour and roll it on rolling board and base, make a thin sheet,
  3. Cut it into two equal parts, Cut into 2 halves, take some water on the finger and apply on the all edges,
  4. Joint the wet edges and give it a cone shape,
  5. Fill the stuffing in the cone, and joint the edges and stick it up gently,
  6. Make them stand on the plate, make all the samosa that remaining dough and stuffing,
  7. Heat up the oil for deep frying on medium flame, oil should not be too hot, and deep fry the samosa,
  8. Deep fry the samosa for 10-15 minutes on medium-low heat till it becomes brown and crispy,
  9. After that take out the samosa on a serving plate,
  10. Serve with tamarind chutney or green chutney.
