VADA PAV RECIPE

Vada pav is a very famous street food in Maharashtra, which is made up of potato filling vada and a special vada pav spices and chutneys.

Ingredients for VADA PAV:

  • Bun pav: 4
  • Potato: 4 boiled and mashed
  • Onion: 1 tablespoon finely chopped
  • Oil: 2 tablespoon
  • Ginger-garlic: 1 tablespoon grated
  • Green chili: 1.5 tablespoon
  • Coriander leaves: 1 tablespoon finely chopped
  • Mustard seeds: 1 teaspoon
  • Curry leaves: 5-7
  • Turmeric powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin-coriander powder: 2 teaspoon
  • Salt to taste
  • Lemon juice: 1 tablespoon
  • Sugar: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Oil/Butter: 2 tablespoon
  • Dry vada pav spice powder: 2 tablespoon

Ingredients for VADA BATTER:

  • Gram flour: 1 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Baking soda: a pinch
  • Turmeric powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Carom seeds: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Water as needed
  • Oil for deep fry

How to make VADA PAV:

  1. Firstly, prepare the vada for vada pav.
  2. Turn on the flame and heat the oil in a pan over medium flame, add mustard seeds.
  3. Once they splutter, add curry leaves, grated ginger-garlic, very finely chopped onion and saute them well for 5 minutes.
  4. Add mashed potatoes, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin-coriander powder, sugar, lemon juice and salt to taste.
  5. Give it a nice mix all together and cook for a minute.
  6. Keep the flame off and set the pan aside to cool down completely.
  7. Another side preparing the vada batter.
  8. In a bowl, sieve the gram flour, turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt to taste, and baking soda.
  9. Altogether, Mix it with the spoon and add carom seeds, add water as needed and make a little thick batter.
  10. Now, turn on the flame and heat up the oil in a deep fry pan, over medium flame.
  11. So, take the potato mixture and make a medium sizes balls of them.
  12. After that, Take one ball and deep it into a flour batter and put it into the hot oil.
  13. Deep fry the vada until it becomes golden brown.
  14. Once they deep fry well take them out on kitchen paper and same way prepare all the vada.
  15. Now, heat up a tava and spread the butter, cut the pav in middle but make sure that they keeping join from one end.
  16. Shallow fry the pav inside and put 1 teaspoon of dry vada pav spice powder and fried vada inside, spread more butter on top of the pav and take it out from the tava.
  17. As a result, the vada pav is ready.
  18. Most of all serve it with green chutney and tomato catchup.
